All of the packs introduce new missions separate from the main game and add new weapons. There are four DLC packs that have been released for the game: The Landwehr Canal Pack, the Neudorf Outpost Pack, the formerly- Pre-Order Bonus Kill Hitler mission, and St Pierre. The multiplayer has been changed up a bit from the previous game to include a Coop Campaign and new multiplayer modes. Some elements like shot masking note Firing when there is a loud environmental sound, preventing enemies around the target area from hearing your gunshot is still present, but only in certain areas. Also hiding bodies can prevent an enemy from frantically combing the area searching for a hidden sniper. The game still has stealth elements but they are focused more on staying out of direct line of sight and noise discipline. At the highest difficulty setting the game has fairly realistic sniping mechanics which require the player to account for bullet drop over distance and bullet drift to the side from wind. The Difficulty settings determine basic AI behavior, how realistic your bullet physics are, and what tactical aides the player can rely on. The sniping mechanic is virtually unchanged depending on difficulty settings. It can be gory and visceral to see your bullet put out an eye, smash through some organs, and shatter bones. On certain shots you get to see the damage and trauma your bullet causes as it passes through the target. One of the new features is the X-Ray Kill Cam. The overall game play has been tweaked but should be familiar to anyone who played the first game. Partway through his mission, though, he discovers that the Soviet-leaning scientists have decided to prove their loyalty to Stalin by using their Wunderwaffe against an unsuspecting target, and Karl must now fight his own ostensible allies to stop them. As part of the Operation Paperclip program, Karl must find and identify several German scientists who want to defect away from the crumbling Nazi regime, killing the ones who join the Soviets and protecting the ones joining the Americans. The story takes place in Germany during the final days of WWII and the player must navigate and fight their way through a city crawling with both Nazi and Soviet troops. You are once again Karl Fairburne, an OSS officer who is inserted into Berlin in 1945 only your mission is to kill V2 scientists and seize information related to the V2 Missiles before the Soviets can get their hands on them. The overall plot is similar to the first game. It’s a fun sniping romp that’s nice to have reunited with its sequels on current gen consoles, where there is a huge step up compared to the last generation versions, but it’s also a reminder of how far the series has come in the meantime and simply makes me want to look to the future of Sniper Elite instead of wanting to step back to its past.A Continuity Reboot of the original Sniper Elite for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii U, and PC via Steam. Though it’s nice to have on current consoles, Sniper Elite V2 Remastered doesn’t feel like an essential buy for all but the most die-hard of Sniper Elite fans. ![]() Sure, there are other improvements, like bundling in all of the DLC levels and bumping the player count up in multiplayer (something that I’ve not been able to test prior to release), but from the original game on PC to the remaster on PS4 Pro, I was hard-pressed to spot the differences. Sniper Elite V2 already had some strong light and shadow effects, even without the changes made in the remaster. This hardware combo smashes it with 60fps performance, and honestly, the only differences I really noticed compared to Remastered on PS4 Pro are with the higher quality character models and some more refined, less jagged environmental shadowing. While my Intel Core i5 3570K might be on the cusp for modern games, it was a top draw CPU when Sniper Elite V2 first released, and with a modern mid-high end GPU like a Vega 56 in the mix, I can quite easily turn the graphics settings up to full and the resolution to 2160p. ![]() The thing for me is that I own the original on PC, and here the need to step up to V2 remastered is less clear. That time I had Karl and a German sniper shot each other at exactly the same time would have been a real keeper, had I thought to open the pause menu and trigger the photo mode in time. It’s now in 4K (on Pro and X you can prioritise resolution or performance, choosing between 2160pp60), it’s been retrofitted with HDR, new lighting, there’s more detailed textures and particle effects, and a bunch of other features like a photo mode where you can scrub forward through kill cams to find the exact frame that you want. ![]() The jump from PS3 or 360 to PS4 Pro or Xbox One X is simply vast.
